Question:-

p(x) = x² - 4

Formulas Used:-

  • a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b)

Answer:-

Zero of a polynomial:-Let p(x) be a polynomial. If p(a) = 0 then, a is called the zero of polynomial p(x). p(a) means that we have to substitute 'a' in the place of x

p(x) = x² - 4 = x² - 2²

=> p(x) = (x - 2)(x + 2)[ by a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b) formula]

Put x = 2

=> p(2) = (2 - 2)(2 + 2)

=> p(2) = 0 * 4

=> p(2) = 0

Put x = -2

=> p(-2) = (-2 - 2)(-2 + 2)

=> p(-2) = -4 * 0

=> p(-2) = 0

Therefore, 2 and -2 are the zeroes of p(x)
