answer: 5 units

median from A divides BC into two equal lines

let median be AD

D(x,y)

D is midpoint of BC

by mid point formula:

x = x1 + x2 /2

x= 1+5/2 =6/2

x= 3

y= y1+y2/2

=-1+1/2 =0/2

y= 0

coordinates of median D(3,0)

length of median AD can be find out using distance formula

AD = root (x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2

= root (3-(-1))^2 + (0-3)^2

= root (4)^2 + (-3)^2

=root (16+9)

=root(25)

= 5 units
