hi all
good morning

p (x)=2x^3 + ax^2 + bx -6

since -2 is the zero,

p (-2) = 2 (-2)^3 + a(-2)^2 + b (-2) -6

= 2 × (-8) + a × (-4) + b × (-2) -6

= (-16) -(4a) -(2b) -(6)

=(-22) - 4a - 2b. (1)

p (-3) = 2 (-3)^3 + a (-3) ^2 + b (-3) -6

= 2 × -27 + a × -9 + b × -3 -6

= -54 - 9a -3b - 6

= -60 -9a - 3b. (2)

-60 - 9a -3b = 0

-9a -3b =60

-3b = 60 + 9a

b = -20 - 3a. (3)

equating (1)

-22 - 4a - 2b =0

substituting b

-22 - 4a -2 (-20-3a)=0

-22 - 4a + 40 + 6a =0

18+2a =0

a = (-9)

b = -20 - 3 (-9)
b = -20 +27
b = 7

hope this helps
