You need to define for yourself what multiplication is. It is really addition. 2+2 is twice two. 5+5+5 is 3 times five. So that 2+2=2x2 or 5+5+5=3x5 is due to the very definition of the operation. If you take different numbers, like x+y when x does not equal Y , it will never be twice x or twice y.

On the other hand, if you take numbers like 3+2+1=6, it is also 2x3. But that is because 2+1 adds up to 3.

Hope it helps.
