let the first no.be x,         the three nos. are- (-19),(-19+1),(19+2)
                                                                      -19,-20,-21
the other two nos. will,
x+1,x+2
(x+1)+(x+2)+x= (-54)
3x+3= -54
3x = 54-3
3x= -57
x= -57/3
x=19

Answer:

Let us assume the three consecutive numbers to be (x-1), (x) and (x+1).

Now it is given that the sum of these three consecutive numbers is equal to -54. Hence forming the equation we get:

⇒ ( x - 1 ) + x + ( x + 1 ) = -54

⇒ x + x + x - 1 + 1 = -54

⇒ 3x = -54

⇒ x = -54/3

⇒ x = -18

Hence the other two numbers are:

  • (x - 1) = - 18 - 1 = -19
  • (x + 1) = - 18 + 1 = -17
