Given:

  • Three consecutive odd integers sum is decreased by the second integer is 38.

To find:

  • The three consecutive integers ?

Solution:

• Let consider numbers be x, x+2, x+4.

Here,

When the sum is decreased by the 2nd number which is x+2,

  • We get the answer as 38.

• Let's take x in common.

⠀⠀━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━⠀

« Now, Forming the equation,

(x + x + 2 + x + 4) - (x + 2) = 38

→ (3x + 6) - (x + 2) = 38

→ 3x + 6 - x - 2 = 38

→ 2x + 4 = 38

→ 2x = 34

x = 17

∴ Hence, The three consecutive odd integers are 17,19 & 22.

« Now, Let's verify this,

→ (x + x + 2 + x + 4) - (x + 2) = 38

→ (17 + 17 + 2 + 17 + 4) - (17 + 2) = 38

→ 57 - 19 = 38

→ 38 = 38

LHS = RHS

  • Hence, Verified!
