The numbers are 15, 16 and 17 or 16, 17 and 18.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the whole numbers be x - 1, x and x + 1

We have been given that the sum of the numbers is more than 45 but less than 54.

According to question:-

( x - 1 ) + (x) + ( x + 1 ) > 45

3x > 45

x >

x > 15                                       .... (1)

( x - 1 ) + (x) + ( x + 1 ) > 45

3x > 54

x < 18                                         ...(2)

From (1) and (2) we can say that x is either 16 or 17 :-

If x is 16

Then the numbers would be 15, 16 and 17

Their sum is 48, which satisfies the conditions.

If x is 17 :-

Then the numbers would be 16, 17 and 18

Their sum is 51, which satisfies the conditions too !
