Answer:

The three rational numbers between - 1 and -2 are  -\frac{5}{4} , -\frac{3}{2}, -\frac{7}{4}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given problem

Find three rational numbers between -1 and -2

Note : Rational numbers between two numbers x and y are x + d, x + 2d and x + 3d, where   d = \frac{y-x}{n +1 }  and n = 3

⇒  given numbers are  -1 and -2

⇒    d = \frac{-2- (-1)}{3+1}= \frac{-2+1}{4} =  \frac{-1}{4}

required rational numbers are

⇒  x + d   =  -1 +(- \frac{1}{4})  = -1 -\frac{1}{4}  = \frac{-4-1}{4} = \frac{-5}{4}

⇒  x + 2d = -1+[2(\frac{-1}{4} )] =  -1 -\frac{1}{2}  = \frac{-2-1}{2}  = \frac{-3}{2}

⇒  x + 3d = -1 + [3(\frac{-1}{4})] = - 1 - \frac{3}{4}  = \frac{-4-3}{4}  = \frac{- 7}{4}

the three rational numbers between - 1 and -2 are  -\frac{5}{4} , -\frac{3}{2}, -\frac{7}{4}
