\textbf{Question - }

find two consecutive even numbers whose sum is 1998.

\textbf{Solution - }

Let the two consecutive numbers be x and x+2

Now,

The sum of these numbers

x + x + 2 = 1998 \\ 2x + 2 = 1998 \\ 2(x + 1) = 1998 \\ x + 1 = \frac{1998}{2} \\ x = 999-1\\x=998
the first number be 998

and another number will be

x+2
998+2
=1000

So, the two consecutive numbers are 998 and 1000.
