Answer: The numbers are -9 and 12.

Let the no.s be a and b,

ATQ,

a + b = 3                                       --------------------> i

a - b = 21                                      -------------------> ii

(ii) - (i), we get,

a - b = 21

a + b = 3

-   -       -

-2b = 18

therefore, b= 18÷-2

                   = -9

Putting b = -9 in (i), we get,

a + b = 3

a +(-9) = 3

a = 3 + 9

Therefore, a= 12

Therefore, the two numbers are 12 (a) and -9 (b).
