let the common multiple be x

numbers 8x and 7x

When each number is decreased by 24/2  = 12

8x -12  : 7x -12 = 11: 9

Cross multipling

11( 7x -12) = 9(8x -12)

77x - 132 = 72x  - 108

77x -72x = 132  -108

5x = 24

x = 24/5

x = 4.8

the numbers are 8 X 4.8 and 7 X 4.8

numbers are = 38.4 and 33.6
