Let x be smaller no. and y be larger no.

3x - 2y = 10 ----- equation (1)

x + 2y = 6 ----- equation (2)

multiply equation (2) by 3

3x + 6y = 18 ----- equation (3)

equation (3) - (2),

3x + 6y - (3x - 2y) = 18 - 10

3x + 6y - 3x + 2y = 8

4y = 8

y = 2

substitute y = 2 in equation (2),

x + 2 × 2 = 6

x + 4 = 6

x = 2
