Answer:

The greater number = 17

The smaller number = 6

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

  • if 7 is  added to the greater, the answer is  four times smaller number
  • 28 added to the smaller number is  equal to twice the greater number

To find,

  • the two numbers

Solution,

Let

  • the smaller number be x
  • the greater number be y

According to the given relation,

 1) 7 is  added to the greater, the answer is  four times smaller number

    7 + y = 4x

    y = 4x - 7 ➙ [1]

2) 28 added to the smaller number is  equal to twice the greater number

    28 + x = 2y ➙ [2]

Substitute y = 4x - 7 in equation [2]

  28 + x = 2y

 28 + x = 2(4x - 7)

28 + x = 8x - 14

 28 + 14 = 8x - x

    7x = 42

      x = 42/7

      x = 6

y = 4x - 7

y = 4(6) - 7

y = 24 - 7

y = 17

Therefore,

The greater number = 17

The smaller number = 6
