Required Answer:-

Given:

  • m + n = -5
  • mn = 6

To Find:

  • The values of m and n.

Solution:

We have,

➡ m + n = -5 . . . (i)

Squaring both sides, we get,

➡ (m + n)² = (-5)²

➡ m² + 2mn + n² = 25

➡ m² + 12 + n² = 25

➡ m² + n² = 13

➡ m² + n² - 2mn = 13 - 2mn

➡ (m - n)² = 13 - 12

➡ (m - n)² = 1

➡ m - n = √1

➡ m - n = ±1 . . . . (ii)

On solving (i) and (ii), we get,

➡ m = -2, -3

➡ n = -3, -2

When m is -2, n is -3 and vice versa.

Answer:

  • m = -2, - 3
  • n = -3, -2
