let the larger no.be y and smaller no.be x

(y+3x=7)eq.1

(x+2y=9)eq.2

multiply the eq.1 with 2

so,the eq.are

2y+6x=14 eq.3

x+2y=9 eq.4

by changing the signs of eq.4

the eq.are now

2y+6x=14

-x-2y=-9

(subtract the eq.3 from eq.4)

5x=5

x=5/5=1

x=1

putting x=1 in eq.2

1+2y=9

2y=9-1

2y=8

y=8/2
