Let the numbers be x and y.

x - y = 7

x = y + 7

2x + 5y = 42

2 (y + 7) + 5y = 42

2y + 14 + 5y = 42

7y = 28

y = 28/7

y = 4

x - 4 = 7

x = 11

Therefore, the larger number is 11 and the smaller number is 4.

Hope this helps.....
