Step-by-step explanation:

Take the two numbers as X and Y

X + Y = 4--------(ii) and X . Y = 2

then X = 2 / Y ----(i)

substitute (i) in (ii)

[ 2 / Y ] + Y = 4

2 + Y^2 = 4Y

Y^2 - 4Y + 2 = 0 =≥ Y^2 -2Y -2Y + 2 = 0 =≥ Y(Y-2) -2(Y-2) = 0 =≥ Y-2 = 0

Y = 2

then X = 2 / Y

X = 2 / 2

X = 1
