x = 1/6   and    y = 3/2

Let the two positive numbers be x and y,(and let's say that y is greater than x)

Sum is 5/3

x + y = 5/3

Division is 9

y/x = 9

The second equation gives us

y = 9x

We go back to the first equation and substitute this value for y (we put 9x in the place of y)

x + y = 5/3

becomes

x + 9x = 5/3

10x = 5/3

x = 5/30

x = 1/6

Then,

y = 9x = 9 x 1/6

y = 3/2

Verification:

x + y = 1/6 + 3/2 = 1+9/6 = 10/6 = 5/3.

Therefore, the two positive numbers are 1/6 and 3/2.
