Given:

The sum of two numbers is 27.

The product of two numbers is 182.

Find:

The numbers

Solution:

Let the one number be 'x'

Let the another number be 'y'.

The sum of two numbers is 27.

One number + other number = 27

=> x + y = 27

=> x = 27 - y ........(i)

The product of of two numbers is 182.

One number other number = 182

=> x × y = 182 .....(ii).

Putting the value of 'x' from equation (i) in equation (ii)

=> x × y = 182

=> (27 - y)y = 182

=> 27y - y² = 182

=> y² - 27y + 182 = 0

=> y² - 14y - 13y + 182 = 0

=> y(y - 14) - 13(y - 14) = 0

=> (y - 13) (y - 14) = 0

=> y = 13 or y = 14

Putting the value of 'y' in equation (i)

y = 13

=> x = 27 - y

=> x = 27 - 13

=> x = 14

y= 14

=> x = 27 - y

=> x = 27 - 14

=> x = 13

Hence, the two numbers are 13 and 14.

I hope it will help you.

Regards.

Answer:

=> x × y = 182

=> (27 - y)y = 182

=> 27y - y² = 182

=> y² - 27y + 182 = 0

=> y² - 14y - 13y + 182 = 0

=> y(y - 14) - 13(y - 14) = 0

=> (y - 13) (y - 14) = 0

=> y = 13 or y = 14
