For the first picture.....

In a parallelogram, the diagonals bisect each other

so , 11 = 3x-1

= 3x = 12

= x = 4

Like wise......

5y=15

= y = 3

In the second image too....the same applies..

x+40 = 2x + 18

= 2x - x = 40 - 18

= x = 22
