Let

A= \begin{bmatrix}6 & 0 &  - 1 \\2 & 1 & 4 \\1 & 1 & 3\end{bmatrix}

So,

 |A|  = 6(3 - 4) - 0(6 - 4) - 1(2 - 1)

 |A|  = 6( - 1) - 0(2) - 1(1)

 =  > |A| =  - 6 - 0 - 1

 =  > |A| =  - 7
