hey mate...

here is your answer...

Given,

x - a is a factor of

x^3 - ax^2 + 2x + a - 1

we know,

x - a = 0

x = 0+a = a

Substitung the value of x as a,

we have,

(a)^3 - a(a)^2 + 2(a) + a - 1 =0

a^3 - a^3 + 2a + a - 1=0

3a - 1=0

3a =1

a = 1/3

Thus,

a = 1 / 3

hope it helps...

Given that (x - a) is the factor,

So, x - a = 0

x = a

Putting the value of x in given equation :

x³ - ax² + 2x + a - 1 = 0

(a)³ - a(a)² + 2(a) + a - 1 = 0

a³ - a³ + 2a + a - 1 = 0

3a - 1 = 0

3a = 1

a=1/3
