Given  : ( 5 , 8  , 17)

To Find :  whether the given triplet is  Pythagorean  or not

Solution:

Pythagorean triplet ( a , b , c)

where c  > a , b  is given by  c²  = a² + b²

( a , n and c) are sides of a triangle

( 5 , 8  , 17)

5 + 8  = 13 < 17

Hence these does not even form a triangle hence can not be Pythagorean triplet

Also checking using Pythagorean triplet  condition

( 5 , 8 , 17)

5² + 8² = 25 + 64 = 89

17² = 289

89 ≠ 289

5² + 8² ≠ 17²

Hence not a Pythagorean triplet
