The task is to look at the words listed below and find their synonyms from the passage. (Please refer to the attached passage.)

(a) of good omen- auspicious.  The word is used in reference to the holy moment when the priest asks the bride to make an entry.

(b) jealous- envious. The word envious is used to show how Bholi’s sisters felt about her wedding. While they all had normal weddings, Bholi’s wedding was an extravagant affair in terms of the groom arriving on a  decorated horse and also the fanfare of the brass band that was playing catching filmy numbers.

(c) victorious- triumphant. Bishamber had a triumphant look on his face when he managed to extort five thousand Rupees from Ramlal to get his daughter married. Though triumphant is a positive word, here it is used for a greedy man.

(d) despicable- contemptible. Bholi uses this word to express her feelings towards her groom. His demand for money exposed his selfish nature, which is what made him a person she could not possibly like.

(e) to consider- contemplate(s). Bholi’s teacher feels immense pride in having shaped Bholi’s personality in such a powerful way. She is almost smiling when she contemplates/ thinks about how well her masterpiece has turned out in the end.
