Given :- find x and y , 0.4x - 1.5y = 6.5, 0.3x - 0.2y = 0.9 ?

Solution :-

Let

→ 0.4x - 1.5y = 6.5 ----------- Eqn.(1)

→ 0.3x - 0.2y = 0.9 --------- Eqn.(2)

Multiply Eqn.(1) by 3 and Eqn.(2) by 4 , and than subtracting Eqn.(2) from Eqn.(1) , we get,

→ 3(0.4x - 1.5y) - 4(0.3x - 0.2y) = 6.5 * 3 - 0.9 * 4

→ 1.2x - 1.2x - 4.5y + 0.8y = 19.5 - 3.6

→ 0.8y - 4.5y = 15.9

→ (-3.7)y = 15.9

→ y = (-15.9/3.7)

→ y = (-159/37)

Putting value of y in Eqn.(2) now,

→ 0.3x - 0.2y = 0.9

→ 0.3x - 0.2 * (-159/37) = 0.9

→ (0.3x * 37 + 0.2 * 159) / 37 = 0.9

→ 11.1x + 31.8 = 33.3

→ 11.1x = 33.3 - 31.8

→ 11.1x = 1.5

→ x = (15/111)

x = (5/37) .
