Concept

The elimination method is one of the techniques used in mathematics  to solve the system of linear equations. In Elimination method, either we add or subtract the equation to get the equation in one variable. If the coefficients of one of the variables is the same we can add or subtact the equation to eliminate the variable.

Given

1) 3x+9y/xy=11

2) 6x+3y/xy=7

Find

The value of x and y

Solution

Using Elimination Method

Let us consider the equations as (1) and (2)

3x+9y/xy=11 …….(1)

6x+3y/xy=7   …….(2)

Multiply (1) by 2

6x + 18y = 22xy …….(3)

As the coefficients of x is same in (3) and (2)

Lets eliminate the x coefficient

6x + 18y = 22xy

6x + 3y = 7xy

Subtracting the equations

15y = 15xy

15=15x

x = 1

Substituting the value of x in (3)

6(1) + 18y = 22y

4y = 6

y = 3/2

The values of x and y are 1 and 3/2 respectively.

Answer:

The values are x=1 and y=3/2.

Step-by-step explanation:

It is given that \frac{3x+9y}{xy} =11

and \frac{6x+3y}{xy} =7

We can use any of the method here.

We are using elimination method here.

3x+9y=11xy

Multiplying it by 2 to equalize the coefficients.

6x+18y=22xy --(1)

6x+3y=7xy --(2)

Subtracting, we get

15y=15xy

x=1

and using it in (1)

6+18y=22y

4y=6

y=3/2
