Answer

x + 2y = 13 ....(I)

3x + y = 24 ....(II)

Multiply eqⁿ (I) by 3

3x + 6y = 39 ....(III)

Subtract eqⁿ (II) from (III)

3x + 6y = 39

_3x ± y = _24

___________

0 + 5y = 15

5y = 15

y = 15/3

y = 3

Substitute y = 3 in eqⁿ (I)

x + 2y = 13

x + 2(3) = 13

x + 6 = 13

x = 13 - 6

x = 7

Answer = x = 7

y = 3
