(i) Since (4x + 3, y) = (3x + 5, – 2),

so 4x + 3 = 3x + 5

or x = 2

and y = – 2

(ii) x – y = 6 x + y = 10

∴ 2x = 16

or x = 8

8 – y = 6

∴ y = 2
