let us find x first

3x+2y=4

3x + 2y = 4 \\  \\ 3x + y =   \cancel \frac{4}{2}  \:  = 2  \\  \\ 3x + y =2 \\

Question

Q. 2. Find the values of x and y in 3x + 2y = 4 and

2x - 3y = 7.

your \: solution

Solution : Given equations are,

3x +2y=4

...(1)

2x-3y=7

Multiplying equation (i) with 3 and equation (ii)

with 2, we get

9x+6y=12

...(iii)

and

4x-6y=14

...(iv)

Thus, adding the above two equations, we get

13x=26

x=2

Replacing x = 2 in equation (i), we get

3(2) + 2y = 4

6+2y=4

2y=-2

y=-1

Hence, the values of x and y are 2,- 1 respectively.
