Answer:

-12 /15 = 16 /x

multiply 4 in denominator of LHS and RHS

- 3 / 15 = 4 / x

divide 15 from 3

- 1 / 5 = 4 / x

by crossmultiplication

-x = 20

x = - 20

Given:

 \frac{ - 12}{15}  =  \frac{16}{x}

To find:

The value of x.

Solution:

First of all, we should know that when we take a term that is in denominator or divide form from LHS to the RHS then it gets multiplied with the terms at the RHS and vice versa.

Now,

As given, we have

 \frac{ - 12}{15}  =  \frac{16}{x}

As two fractions -12/15 and 16/x are equal. So now, we will do cross multiplication.

After cross multiplication, we have,

 - 12x = 16  \times 15

x =  \frac{16 \times 15}{ - 12}

On solving we have,

x =  - (4 \times 5)

x =  - 20

Hence, the value of x is -20
