find X if (2x+4) (4) = (4x-2) (X+1)​

Answer:

(2x  + 4)(4) = (4x - 2)(x + 1)

8x + 16 = 5x + 4x - 2x - 2

16 + 2 = 7x - 8x

18 =  - x

x =  - 8

4(2x+4) = (x+1)(4x-2)

8x + 16 = 4x^{2} -2x + 4x - 2

4x^{2} + 2x -8x - 2- 16 = 0

4x^{2} - 6x -18 = 0

  • use quadratic formula to solve it

x = \frac{-b± \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac } }{2a}

x = \frac{-(-6)± √(-6)² - 4(4)(-18)}{2(4}

x = 6± √36+288/8

x = 6+18/8 or 6-18/8

x = 3 or -1.5
