 {( - 2)}^{x + 1}  \div  {( - 2)}^{3}  =  {( - 2)}^{5}  \\  \\  =  >  \frac{ {( - 2)}^{x + 1} }{ {( - 2)}^{3} }  =  {( - 2)}^{5}  \\  \\  =  >  {( - 2)}^{x + 1 - 3}  =  {( - 2)}^{5}

On comparing :

x + 1 - 3 = 5 \\  \\  =  > x = 5 + 2 \\  \\  =  > x = 7
