Find the value of x in the given figure.

a) It is given that ∠BOA = 90°

By Linear pair of angles,

∠AOB + ∠BOC + ∠COD = 180°

⇒ 90° + 2x + (x + 5)° = 180°

⇒ 2x + x + 5 = 180° - 90°

⇒ 3x + 5 = 90°

⇒ 3x = 90° - 5°

⇒ 3x = 85°

x = 28.3°

Now let's find out the angles.

∠BOC = 2x = 56.6°

∠COD = x + 5 = 28.3 + 5 = 33.3°

∠BOC = 56.6°

∠COD = 33.3°

b) By Linear pair of angles,

∠AOB + ∠BOC + ∠COD = 180°

⇒ (3x - 5)° + (2x - 6)° + (x + 5)° = 180°

⇒ 3x - 5 + 2x - 6 + x + 5 = 180°

⇒ 3x + 2x + x + 5 - 5 - 6 = 180°

⇒ 6x - 6 = 180°

⇒ 6x = 180 + 6

⇒ 6x = 186

⇒ x = 186 ÷ 6

x = 31°

Now let's find out the value of the angles

∠AOB = (3x - 5)° = 3(31) - 5 = 88°

∠BOC = (2x - 6)° = 2(31) - 6 = 56°

∠COD = (x + 5)° = 31 + 5 = 36°

∠AOB = 88°

∠BOC = 56°

∠COD = 36°
