The cost of painting 3 iron boxes at the rate of ₹ 4 per square metre, whose dimensions are 1.5 m *0.6 m *0.3 m,1.5 m * 0.75 m *0.25 m and 2m *0.8 m*0.4 m respectively is  Rs. 47.5.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the 3 iron boxes be denoted as “Box 1”, “Box 2” & “Box 3”.

Dimensions of the boxes:

Box 1: 1.5 m * 0.6 m * 0.3 m

Box 2: 1.5 m * 0.75 m * 0.25 m

Box 3: 2 m * 0.8 m * 0.4 m

Now, it is given that the 3 iron boxes have to be painted so we will find the total surface area of each of the cuboidal shaped iron boxes.

Formula Used:

  • TSA of a cuboid = 2[lb + bh + hl]

Total Surface Area of each of the boxes:

Box 1:  2 * [(1.5 * 0.6) + (0.6 * 0.3) + (0.3 * 1.5)] = 2 * [0.9+0.18+0.45] = 3.06 m²

Box 2: 2 * [(1.5 * 0.75) + (0.75 * 0.25) + (0.25 * 1.5)] = 2 * [1.125+0.1875+0.375] = 3.375 m²

Box 3: 2 * [(2 * 0.8) + (0.8 * 0.4) + (0.4 * 2)] = 2 * [1.6+0.32+0.8] = 5.44 m²

The total surface area of the 3 iron boxes = 3.06 + 3.375 + 5.44 = 11.875 m²

The rate of painting is given to be Rs. 4 per square meter

Thus,

The total cost of painting the 3 iron boxes is,

= 11.875 m² * Rs. 4

= Rs. 47.5
