Answer:

QUESTION

FIND THE TOTAL RESISTANCE WHEN RESISTANCE OF 5 OHM , 10 OHM AND 12 OHM ARE COMNECTED IN PARALLEL.

ANSWER

1 \div rp \:  = 1 \div 5 + 1 \div 10 + 1 \div 12 \\ 1 \div rp \:  = (4 + 2 + 1) \div 20 \\  1 \div rp \:  = 6 \div 20 \\  \\ rp \:  = 33.3ohm

Solution:

Formula for calculating effective resistance in a parallel circuit:

  • 1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3

According to the question, it is given,

R1 = 5 ohm, R2 = 10 ohm and R3 = 12 ohm

Hence the effective resistance or total resistance of the circuit is given as:

=> 1/R = 1/5 + 1/10 + 1/12

=> 1/R = 0.2 + 0.1 + 0.083

=> 1/R = 0.383

Hence R = 1 / 0.383 which is 2.61 ohms.

Hope it helped!
