Given:

Finis purchased 3 pounds of sliced turkey for $10.50 at Store #1.

Marleigh bought 2.5 pounds of sliced turkey for $8.90 at Store #2

To find:

What is the price per pound of the better deal?

Solution:

Store 1:

If the cost of 3 pounds of sliced turkey = $ 10.50

Then, the cost of 1 pound of sliced turkey = \frac{10.50}{3} = \$\:3.5

Store 2:

If the cost of 2.5 pounds of sliced turkey = $ 8.90

Then, the cost of 1 pound of sliced turkey = \frac{8.90}{2.5} = \$\:3.56

From the above calculations, we can see that,

⇒ There is a very minimal (i.e., in decimal) difference between the rates of the two deals

⇒ Since 3.56 > 3.5

The deal given to Marleigh by the store 2 was a slightly a better deal.

Thus, the price per pound of the better deal is → $ 3.56.
