It is non living, but it spreads with the help of air ( oxygen) which is abundant in the atmosphere and releases smoke and carbon dioxide which process is called combustion
It shows this behaviour because it burns on combustible substance and when it is completely burnt it doesn't have any substance to burn on and when you burn it in a compact place the fire will slowly demolish due to not getting any oxygen
