Answer:

Option(C)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given, Speed of the car = 42 km/hr.

Time = 7 hours.

We know that Distance = Speed * Time

                                       = 42 * 7

                                       = 294 km.

Now,

Distance is doubled = 588 km.

Speed = 60 km/hr.

We know that Time = Distance/Speed

                                 = 588/60

                                 = 9.8 hours

                                 = 9 hours 48 minutes.

Hope it helps!

If a car takes 7 hours to complete a journey travelling at a speed of 42 km/h. How much time will the car take to cover the double the distance at a speed of 60 km/h?

[a] 9 h 58 min

[b] 7 h 46 min

[c] 9 h 48 min

[d] 8 h 49 min

SOLUTION :

The speed of the car = 42 km/h    (given)

It takes 7 hours to complete a journey

So,

The distance travelled by the car in 1 hour = 42 km

The distance travelled by the car in 7 hours = 42 × 7 = 294 km

Now,

To be found :-

The time taken by the car to cover that double distance at a speed of 60 km/h

The double distance = 294 × 2 = 588 km

We know that,

\bf{Speed = \frac{Distance}{Time}

\bf{60=\frac{588}{Time}

\bf{Time= \frac{588}{60}    [ transporting time to LHS and 60 to RHS ]

\bf{Time=9.8 \: hours

∴ 9 hours 48 minutes

[ 0.8 × 60 = 48 minutes   ( 1 hour = 60 minutes)  ]

Hence,

Option [C] 9 hours 48 min is the correct answer
