It's a bit trick, but can be solved easily.

Well, Let us assume you had x number of mangoes at the beginning.

So, You gave mangoes step by step, Let us analyze each step.

Step 1

You gave half of what you have plus 3.

So Let us find the number of mangoes you're left with.

⇒ x / 2 + 3

(x + 6)/2 ...(1)

Let's go to another step.

Step 2

So you gave half of mangoes that are left plus 2.

But from (1), we know the number of mangoes that are left

⇒ { (x + 6)/2 } / 2 + 2 [ from (1) ]

⇒ (x + 6)/4 + 2

⇒ (x + 6 + 8)/4

(x + 14)/4 ...(2)

Moving ahead.

Step 3

Now it is the last step, so excited.

Well, you gave half of the mangoes left plus 1 but most importantly you're left 0 mangoes after this.

⇒ { (x + 14)/4 } / 2 + 1 [ from (2) ]

⇒ (x + 14)/8 + 1

(x + 22)/8 ...(3)

After this, There are many ways to solve this problem, we would go with the easier one.

So, we have

⇒ Number of mangoes = x

But sum of the number of mangoes given in each step would be the number of mangoes.

⇒ (1) + (2) + (3) = x

⇒ (x + 6)/2 + (x + 14)/4 + (x + 22)/8 = x

⇒ (4x + 24 + 2x + 28 + x + 22)/8 = x

⇒ 7x + 74 = 8x

x = 74

Hence, The number of mangoes at the beginning was 74 mangoes.
