- It states that the total energy can be neither created nor destroyed; but can be transformed from one form to another.
- Mathematicaly,
∆U = Q + W

# First law of thermodynamics is incomplete because -
- It doesn't tell whether process is spontaneous or not.
- Also, direction of heat flow is not mentioned in this law.
