(i ) We can write the first law of Thermodynamics for a system which changes its state during a non-cyclic process, when we employ the property of system E energy.

(ii) The net change of the energy of the system is always equal to the net transfer of energy across the system boundary as heat and work

First law of thermodynamics for cyclic and non cyclic process:

There are different laws of thermodynamics while the first law of thermodynamics deals with the processes that are cyclic and noncyclic.

For cyclic process:

  • The process is which start at a certain point and move across a face and ends at a point where it had already started and then again starts at the point.
  • This state is given by the net usage of heat or heat transfer, this is the law for a cyclic process.

For Non-cyclic process:

  • In case of the non-cyclic processes, There are two aspects that determine the process instead of the heat transfer, like the cyclic process, the non cyclic process has it as well as work done.
  • So this process can have a Total energy that would be a net energy of heat transfer and work done.
