due to the presence of oxygen released through plants

this happens because of the oxygen content. when there are water plants in the aquarium they release oxygen so they can survive for more time. but when there are no plants in the aquarium the oxygen content is less there so the fish may have less life span.

hope so my answer is useful...........^_^   !!
