The main reason why fish species are lower in reservoirs is lack of food. Rivers has more water plants that fishes needs in order live. Even they produce more there will be still food available for every species. While in reservoirs the water level always changes. Those water changes doesn`t allow plants to reproduce, plants are fish`s food. So what fishes do is they will reproduce less so that food will be enough for everybody or in other words they adopt to the environment.
