Fishes have single circulation of blood and vertebrates have double circulation of blood. Give reason?

Fishes have single circulation of blood because their heart has only 2 chambers  - an atrium and a ventricle. the oxygenated blood is taken from the gills and sent to the atrium and flows down to the ventricle which sends it to all the body parts. The de-oxygenated blood is collected from all the body parts and is sent directly to the gills. As the blood flows through the heart only once to complete a full circulation it is called as a single circulation.

The heart of vertebrates have 4 chambers - left atrium, left ventricle , right atrium and right ventricle. The oxygenated blood collected from the lungs is taken to the left atrium and flows down to the left ventricle which sends it to all the body parts. The de-oxygenated blood is collected from all the body parts and sent to the right atrium which flows down to the right ventricle which sends it to the lungs. As the blood flows twice through the heart to complete a circulation it is called as double circulation.
