Yes, mechanical boats are riskier as they work with the help of motor.
These may cause distortions in water, due to which fish may move away.
Karatheppa on the other hand is simple and not much modified, so fishes as usual will move around the boat facilitating a fisherman to catch them.

Mechanical Boats are riskier then Karatheppas not just because of its motor, but also of its cruising speed and water polluting fuels.
A fisherman can go solo with Karatheppa for fishing. He can't do the same with the mechanical boats which have big motor and ruder. There is a need of an operator in the case of the Mechanical boat.
Even though Karatheppa needs more energy to cruise forward Karatheppa is eco-friendly. It helps the fisherman in silent fishing. It helps in the reproduction of fishes by limiting fishing practices.
Mechanical boats are one of the reasons for the disturbance in fish proliferation as it pollutes the water with oil spills and with the noise it creates.
