Only prokaryotes (the archaea and the bacteria) reproduce asexually through binary fission. Eukaryotes (such as protists and unicellular fungi) may reproduce in a functionally similar manner by mitosis; most of these are also capable of sexual reproduction.

Explanation:

Fission is defined as the splitting up of one entity in two. In biology, Fission is described as an asexual mode of reproduction by which a unicellular organism splits into two and then each part develops or regenerates into an adult organism.

In this process, firstly the genetic material duplicates, then the cytoplasm expands and splits into two parts giving rise to two daughter cells which then grow into new individual. This process of reproduction is usually followed by Bacteria, Amoeba etc.

The fission can dbe of two types:

a) Binary fission: The most common type of fission process seen in unicellular organism. That gives rise to two individuals.

b) Multiple fission : This process is generally followed by amoeba during unfavourable conditions. And gives rise to several individual after the favourable conditions returns.
