Earlier all the living organisms present on earth were broadly divided into two kingdoms – plants and animals. But gradually the differences are recognized. It is found that there are several types of organisms which do not completely resemble either with plants or animals. For these organisms some new kingdoms are formed which can help to describe more or less all organisms clearly. By the contribution of the scientists like Haeckel and Robert Whittaker five kingdom classification system was evolved creating five different kingdom to place the organisms according to their characteristics. The kingdoms are
Kingdom Monera – Unicellular prokaryotes
Kingdom Protista – Simple cellular eukaryotes
Kingdom Fungi – Multicellular saprotrophs
Kingdom Plantae – All multicellular autotrophs
Kingdom Animalia – All multicellular heterotrophs
