Chandrashekar Azad was a great freedom fighter and revolutionary who shook the British regime in India. He had added ‘Azad’ to his name so that he could convey the message to the world that he was born free, he is free and forever will be free.

EXPLANATION:

Chandrashekar Azad was born as Chandrasekhar Tiwari in the year 1906, the 23rd July in Bhabhra village in Madhya Pradesh.  Since his mother desired that he become a revered Sanskrit scholar, he went to Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, for studies.

Azad was deeply saddened with Jallianwala Bagh’ massacre incident in 1919 by the British (JP Saunders), and in order to express his outrage, he along with Sukhdev, Rajguru, and Bhagat Singh killed JP Saunders.
