Answer:

1. Meristematic cells are continuously dividing cells so they have a prominent nucleus and dense cytoplasm. But since these cells do not store food material or waste materials, they lack vacuole. Sclerenchyma cells have lignified cell walls which makes them compact and leaves no intercellular spaces.

2.Intercellular spaces are absent in sclerenchymatous tissues because they have a cementing substance (known as lignin) around their cell membrane which makes them stiff and hard.

3.Pear contains cells of sclerenchyma which are small, rounded and called stone cells. They are hard with highly thickened cell wall. These cells give the crunchy and granular feeling when we chew pear fruit.

B. Bulliform cells: (ii) Single layer

A. Cuticle: (i) Guard cells

D. Epidermis: (iv) Empty colourless cell

C. Stomata: (iii) Waxy layer

4.Collenchyma is present at junction of a branch. Collenchyma provides rigidity with flexibility. Due to this, branches of tree move and bend freely in high wind velocity.

5. Intercellular spaces in sclerenchyma are absent because they have lignin around which makes them hard. - Sclerenchyma in plants supports tissue composed of any of various kinds of hard woody cells. ... - So, it is difficult to pull out the husk of a coconut tree due to the Presence of Sclerenchyma
