Characteristics of commercial farming are:

  1. Farmer use of higher doses of modern inputs, e.g. high yielding variety (HYV) seeds, chemical fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides.
  2. The degree and extent of commercialized agriculture varies from region to region. For example, wheat in Punjab is a commercial crop, while in Orissa, it is a subsistence crop.
  3. In this type of farming crops are produced for sale.
  4. It requires a lot of capital.
  5. Plantation is also a kind of commercial farming where a single crop is grown over a large area.

Hope this helps!
